Korea a few days in…

Posted by Mr. O on 23rd November 2009

Things have been awesome so far. I’ve visited Seoul twice and I plan on going back a few more times this week. It’s about a 40 minute bus ride into downtown Seoul from Seth’s place but the transportation systems here make it very easy. I think I’ going to visit a few palaces this afternoon after some shopping in Ilsan. Their shopping is very similar to ours with stores like Puma, Niketown, and the Gap. American clothing is very expensive here because they have to import it. Here are a few pictures of what I’ve been doing…

Korea, night number 1

Posted by Mr. O on 20th November 2009

After waiting a bit at the airport and getting random stares from all the locals, Seth finally arrived and we boarded the number 3300 bus to Ilsan. The trip to Ilsan was about 40 minutes and Seth and I just caught up as I gawked at the Korean Metropolis. My first impressions are that it is very busy here day and night. Many people are out in the streets at all hours .

Galbi

Galbi

When Seth and I returned to his apartment I quickly dropped my stuff off and we went across the street to dinner. For dinner we had Galbi, which is a form of Korean BBQ. We went to a beef galbi place and started to cook our own dinner almost as soon as we sat down. The servers here sprint from table to table, and best of all tipping isn’t customary. There is also a call button at every table just incase you need anything. With our beef we received unlimited lettuce wraps, onions and peppers, mashed potatoes, and of course Kim Chi.

Nore-bang!

Nore-bang!

After Dinner we met up with some of Seth’s friends and hung out at a restaurant for about an hour until we decided to go to a Nore-bang, or Korean Karoake. It is much different than our Karoake. In a Nore-bang you and your friends rent a room sing your hearts out. They had both American and Korean songs and it didn’t take me long to belt out Creep by Radiohead at the top of my lungs, thank you Rockband.

It was getting pretty late after Nore-bang so we decided to call it a night…

Just arrived

Posted by Mr. O on 20th November 2009

So I just landed in Korea and everything went very smoothly. The flight took 12 hours and I was able to read a little of my book, work on some of my masters homework, and watch 4 movies. Singapore Airlines was very nice and eventhough I was in economy class I recieved 3 meals, unlimited drinks, and my very own entertainment center with movies, tv shows, and even video games.
The first thing I noticed after landing is that I was much bigger than everyone and everything is designed for a shorter type of person. A very close second realization is that the Korean culture is always in a hurry. After getting through customs I visited the currency exchange to get some
Korean Won. After handing over 100 precious American dollars the lady behind the glass handed me a pile of green bills that look like play money, a handful of coins, and of course a friendly Korean smile.
I am now waiting for Seth to emerge from the crowd of unfamiliar faces to lead me on an adventure of a lifetime.

Park Avenue and the Courthouse Towers

Posted by Mr. O on 15th October 2009

This trail was one of the amazing ones Rhodes and I hike on our summer road trip. Its located within Arches National Park outside of Moab, Utah. It’s called Park Avenue because the giant rock cliffs look very similar to a city street.

Mr Rhodes took this photo and the Colorado River is raging behind him. This Canyon was named after William Granstaff, a cowboy who mined the region and also had a cattle ranch.

The trail is about 2.5 miles long and follows a stream and ends at the worlds 6th biggest arch, Morning Glory Arch. Mr. Rhodes and I hiked this trail in about 2 hours and saw a lot of awesome things along the way. We saw several small waterfalls with water so clear you could see fish along with breathtaking sandstone walls that have been carved by wind and rain for hundreds of years!

Morning Glory Arch is 6th biggest in the world and is about 265 feet long...thats almost a football field!

Delicate Arch

Posted by Mr. O on 8th October 2009

Delicate Arch is one of the most famous arches in the world. It is located in Moab, Utah and can also be seen on some Utah license plates and billboards around Denver. Have you ever seen a billboard around Brighton with Delicate Arch? This picture was taken at moonrise after Mr. Rhodes and I hiked to it this past summer.
